We believe that the sacrament of Confirmation is when an individual is sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. In fact, it is the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. In this Sacrament, an individual is empowered by the Holy Spirit to help build the Kingdom of God. God’s Kingdom is built through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. The “tools” to accomplish these works are referred to as “The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.” These gifts are Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord.
At St. Joseph’s, Confirmation is usually administered by one of our diocesan bishops to those in 8th grade after a period spiritual and educational preparation. Therefore, all children seeking the sacrament of Confirmation should be enrolled in our Religious Education Program or Elementary School. Please contact the appropriate office for more details. Adults who never received Confirmation should contact our Adult Faith Formation Office.
Sponsors for Confirmation must be fully initiated Catholics over the age of 16 practicing the faith. The norm for Confirmation is one sponsor. Please contact the appropriate office for more details.
